Foot Locker Elite Classic – High Stakes Hoops event set to unveil some surprises
Interest in the Overseas Player Draft for the Foot Locker Elite Classic – High Stakes Hoops event has been strong, with the steady flow of players nominating for the draft early in the week developing into a strong current by the end of it.
As a result of continued interest shown by many international players still organising their calendars, ECB today declared a short extension to the Overseas Player Draft nomination deadline.
Players overseas will now have until midnight, Tuesday, March 9th, Australian time, to submit their completed nomination form.
The OPD Draft Selection Process – which will see each of the 8 ECB teams randomly placed for the order in which they will choose their Overseas Players – will now take place on the morning of Wednesday, March 10th. The random selection order will be determined by computer simulation and observed by neutral officials to ensure integrity.
The Overseas Player Draft itself will occur on Friday, March 12th, in Adelaide. Team Rights Holders representing each Team will be involved in a telephone conference call across the nation and each Team will make up to 3 selections, one from each of three Draft Rounds.
Teams are not compelled to draft at all, or may choose to select less than three picks. A total of 24 players, maximum, will then be brought to Australia to participate in the Foot Locker Elite Classic – High Stakes Hoops event, April 6th to 11th, at the Adelaide Dome. Players flying to Australia must be in Los Angeles by the afternoon of April the 2nd and will return there on April the 12th.
Names of nominated players who have completed and submitted their paperwork (available via the highstakeshoops.com website) will be published on the website from this Sunday, March 7th.
A full, updated list, including ALL nominations, will then appear directly after the nomination deadline on midnight Tuesday, March 9th. Teams will find out their Draft Selection Order the next day and have two further days to consider names of available players on the list for selection on Friday, March 12th.
Nominated players already in the system available for the OPD include several former NBL stars, players with NBA experience, European professionals, and players just out of the US NCAA college ranks.
